The Floor from before
The clouds are pink,
ridged like the roof of a dog’s mouth.
Sun, spent, lolls out over the teeth
at the edge of the earth.

Lung ta Kata *
So many flags rippling out their prayers on a white background.
Earth Wind Fire Space Water, always water within movements.
This practice makes permanent, never perfect. The kata is
never the same kata twice.
The frayed mistakes are the prayer.
Wind accepts this.

* Tibetan prayer flags are known as Lung ta, or Wind Horse. They are traditionally a series of five colours; blue, red, green, yellow and white. White flags represent water.
I stand tall; taller than all creatures I know.
I am fleet; I can outrun them all.
Yet I frighten easily; startled by the sudden movement of the slightest thing
like a plastic bag trapped on a barbed-wire fence, struggling to free itself.
We are all trapped by who we are.
